Skillful Play Therapy has a strong commitment to giving back. Read more about our cause at The Kianh Foundation in Central Vietnam.
While working in Japan, Candice traveled extensively throughout South East Asia. In 2017, she first visited Vietnam and fell in love with the culture. After learning that Vietnam's ability to care for its children with special needs was fifty years behind that of the U.S., Candice felt compelled to seek out a meaningful cause to be a part of in Vietnam. So after her three year commitment in Japan came to an end, Candice and her husband, Patrick, moved to Vietnam in April 2018 where they volunteered at The Kianh Foundation.
The Kianh Foundation is a non-profit that provides education and therapy services for children with special needs. It is the only school of its kind with a special education curriculum in all of Vietnam. Candice and her husband spent six months on-site at the school in 2018. At the school, Candice provided consulting and training to the local therapy staff and worked directly with the children. The children's conditions range from mild to severe cerebral palsy, down syndrome, autism, scoliosis, genetic anomalies, and seizure disorders.
