Dr. Candice Dunbar, PT
Candice graduated from Arkansas State University in 2012 with her doctorate in physical therapy. After practicing locally in Jonesboro, AR for several years, she was called to accept a mission as a civilian therapist for the U.S. military and moved overseas in 2015. There, she worked with the children of our military men and women stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
While working in Japan she traveled extensively throughout South East Asia. In 2017, she first visited Vietnam and fell in love with the culture and the people. After learning that Vietnam's ability to care for its children with special needs was 50 years behind that of the U.S., Candice felt compelled to seek out a meaningful cause to be a part of in Vietnam. So after her 3 year commitment in Japan came to an end, Candice and her husband, Patrick, moved to Vietnam in April 2018 where they currently volunteer at The Kianh Foundation.
The Kianh Foundation is the only special education program for children with special needs in all of Vietnam. Here at the school, Candice provides consulting and training to the local therapy staff and works directly with the children. The children's conditions range from mild to severe cerebral palsy, down syndrome, autism, scoliosis, genetic anomalies, and seizure disorders.
Candice measures success by the ability to help others. She understands the need for her services is far reaching and cannot be defined by the imaginary divide of state and country. This is why she founded Skillful Play Therapy. She is pioneering on-line consulting and coaching for young children in the U.S. and abroad so that the best information on early child development is accessible to all families no matter where they live.
